One person is dead and another was taken to County General with non-life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle collision near the Highway 9 overpass early Friday morning.

The crash occurred just before 7:20 a.m. — about an hour after the seismic activity felt across Blackmoor Cove that morning, according to timestamps from dispatch logs. Investigators have attributed the collision to wet pavement and reduced visibility.

"The whole road just kind of dropped for a second," said one motorist who arrived at the scene shortly after emergency crews. "I don't know how else to describe it."

The highway was closed for several hours while crews cleared the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of family. The surviving driver remains in stable condition.

County officials say there is no confirmed connection between the crash and the tremors reported elsewhere in this morning's broadcast.
