Authorities Investigate Late-Night Gathering at Old Mill Road

Police responded to reports of a large group gathered on private property near the old grain mill off Route 9 shortly before midnight. Witnesses described chanting and a bonfire visible from the road.
No arrests were made, and the group had dispersed by the time officers arrived. This is the third such report in Blackmoor Cove this month.
Neighbors have asked the county to increase patrols in the area. The mill, which has stood vacant since a fire damaged its grinding house in the late 1980s, is owned by an out-of-state trust and is not zoned for public gatherings of any kind.
"It's mostly kids, probably," said one Route 9 resident who asked not to be named. "But the chanting doesn't sound like kids."
County officials say there is no indication the gatherings are connected to the vessel incident reported elsewhere in this morning's broadcast. NEWS 6 will continue to follow this story as it develops.
